PS3 Break taken down by Sony in UK

Several reports in the internet has suggest that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has achieved success in sweeping the PS3 mod chip USB dongle devices from the UK Playstation market.
The device has been available to people in UK since 13th September.
The device, which is known as PS3 Break allows illegal copies of the PS3 blu-ray titles to be played directly in the console. It’s the most popular PS3 Jailbreak dongle device that were available worldwide. Although the device is a clone of the first PS3 mod chip which is known as PS Jailbreak, there are no reports of PS Jailbreak themselves being “cleaned” on UK shores. The reason might going to be related to the on going lawsuit of PS Jailbreak by Sony Australia.
SCEE reacted quickly to ceased the PS3 Jailbreaking activity in the United Kingdom, advising a number of retailers who sold the PS3 Break dongle to shut down their illegal operation. Most of them complied immediately, while other retailers are said to have followed suit once the platform holder obtained court orders from SCEE against them.
UKIE’s Director General, Michael Rawlinson, said,“Having our member, SCEE, respond so quickly to prevent the sale of illegal PS3 modification chips shows the commitment that the video games and interactive entertainment industry has to stamping out intellectual property theft. Intellectual property theft is a hugely damaging crime both to the individuals whose creativity is stolen and to the businesses that make up Britain’s video games and interactive entertainment industry. UKIE’s own anti-piracy unit works tirelessly to combat the illegal trading of video games and we welcome Sony’s swift and committed response to dealing with the illegal sale of the PS3 Break modchip.”

Sony’s Profit in each PS3 Console

The news highlighted Sony’s new found profitability where they announced around June this year that although the amount is little, they finally making some profit for each console sold for the first time since they debuted to the gaming world back in 2006. This is due to the latest version of their hardware which is considerably less to produce.
“This year is the first time that we are able to cover the cost of the PlayStation 3″, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told IGN. “We aren’t making huge money from hardware, but we aren’t bleeding like we used to.”
The Playstation 3 dubbed as “Engineering Masterpiece” in the year of the console debut, is actually losing about $307 for each console sold. iSuppli, a market research firm mentioned about Sony’s use of dual graphics chips from Nvidia and Toshiba, and its use of four 512-megabit DRAM chips from Samsung Electronics. According to them, the Sony’s motherboard alone probably costs the Japanese company $500 in total, compared to $204 Microsoft paid for their Xbox 360.
